Kyle Andrews

How it all began – because of an inspirational boy called Kyle Andrews…

Kyle Andrews was a brave young boy from Broome who loved life and lived it to the fullest. 

In early 1998, after being diagnosed with leukaemia, Kyle spent much of his time at Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) in Perth, undergoing treatment. Although the treatment was difficult and draining, he looked forward to returning home to Broome in-between treatment for a much needed break. The time spent in Broome allowed Kyle to recharge and made him feel stronger. Kyle knew his friends in Ward 3B at PMH needed to escape the ‘white walls’ of the oncology ward, inspiring his dream of bringing his young friends to Cable Beach, in his words “so they might feel better”. This is where it all started!

The Broome community rallied around and raised the funds for the inaugural Kyle’s Camp in 1998. “Kyle’s Camp 98” was such a wonderful and enriching experience for everyone who attended, that it became an annual event. 

Sadly, Kyle lost his battle with cancer at the young age of 11, after experiencing the first Kyle’s Camp with his friends, but his legacy lives on in The Kyle Andrews Foundation Inc. 

The Kyle Andrews Foundation Inc group has been working together since 1998 to achieve Kyle’s dream and is fully incorporated as a registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission.
